Texas returns to the D1Baseball rankings after a 3-1 week

A strong finish would get Texas back into the mix to host a regional.

Texas is back into D1Baseball’s top 25 rankings at No. 22 after a 3-1 week that included a road series victory over West Virginia.

The Horns took the first two games of the series against the Mountaineers lead by excellent pitching performances from Pete Hansen and Lucas Gordon. Ivan Melendez hit three home runs in the first two games to put his season total at 25.

The bullpen proved to be an issue yet again in the final game of the series. Texas took a 5-3 lead into the fifth inning, but could not hold on for the sweep, falling 8-6.

The final homestretch sets up favorably for the Longhorns as they will host Texas Southern and Sam Houston State for midweek matchups before a three-game series against Kansas. A 5-0 finish would have Texas right in the mix to host a regional in the NCAA tournament.
