Texas’ 2022 season will likely be defined by the performance of a transfer quarterback.
The Longhorns aren’t the only program that chose to make a big splash in the transfer portal, as schools such as USC and Ole Miss received a new quarterback as well. There were even some of college football’s most experienced signal-callers like Kedon Slovis and Dillon Gabriel finding new homes.
With all the quarterback movement happening, Bleacher Report released their rankings of the 10 best transfer quarterbacks to watch during spring games. Ewers was one of them as he is facing off against third-year Hudson Card for the starting gig. Here is what they said about the former No. 1 overall recruit.
Hopefully during Texas’ spring game we will get to see both Ewers and Card work with the starters, as last spring only Casey Thompson was working with the ones.
Ewers still has a ways to go before being named the starter, the biggest thing holding him back is he is inexperienced in this offense. Even with him overcoming the learning curve of Sarkisian’s offense, the Texas staff has been thrilled with what they have seen so far. One report by 247Sports even went as far to say that the staff believes that Ewers is better than advertised.
Longhorns fans are hopeful that Ewers is the star that he has been advertised as, but they likely just want some form of consistency at the position. If the young quarterback can provide that, the sky will be the limit with all the weapons he has around him.
