Texas QB Maalik Murphy spotted without walking boot

It looks like Murphy could be returning to the field soon.

Texas is in the thick of spring practices and for the most part have had a fairly healthy roster up to this point.

After the first spring practice on March 22, Steve Sarkisian provided an injury update that stated wide receiver Troy Omeire and linebacker Luke Brockermeyer were expected to miss spring ball. Wide receiver Jaden Alexis and quarterback Maalik Murphy were expected to miss multiple practices but return at some point.

Murphy was dealing with a foot injury suffered during Junipero Serra’s state championship game in December. He was sacked in the fourth quarter and limped off the field with an ankle injury.

The freshman is getting closer towards joining his Texas teammates on the field for the first time, as Anwar Richardson of Rivals spotted Murphy on Tuesday morning before spring practice and he was no longer wearing a boot.

Murphy will likely have to sit behind Hudson Card and Quinn Ewers this upcoming season, but with a few years of development under his belt, he could emerge as a future starter.

The four-star prospect was rated the No. 12 quarterback in the country for the 2022 recruiting class and the No. 13 overall prospect in the state of California, according to 247Sports.
