Texas opens as slight favorite over Kansas State

Even amid a six-game losing streak, Texas is viewed as the slight favorite over Kansas State for the regular season finale.

Tipico Sportsbook gave the Longhorns the 2.5 point edge this week. It could very well be due to the fact that Kansas State quarterback Skylar Thompson is expected to be sidelined due to injury, but the Wildcats still have a very dangerous running back in Deuce Vaughn that could easily carve up Texas’ defense.

On the other end, the Longhorns are dealing with their own injury issues at quarterback. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian told the media shortly after the West Virginia loss that Hudson Card and Casey Thompson were undergoing X-rays for their injuries suffered in Morgantown.

Card was injured late in the fourth quarter after one of his best performances to date. He was tackled late after a play and seemingly had his ankle rolled up on. When Thompson had to re-enter the game due to Card’s injury, he appeared to aggravate the thumb injury on his throwing arm and was in significant pain.

With the short week, it’s unclear if either quarterback will be healthy enough to take the field against Kansas State. If not, true freshman Charles Wright or former walk-on Ben Ballard would receive the start.
