Last week the Longhorns were missing their big play safety in a banged up secondary. Caden Sterns hasn’t been the big play safety since his freshman season but he is their best player in that position. Through the three games he has played Sterns has given up just 28 yards receiving in coverage. Only allowing a completion percentage of 50%.

With the issues with the missed tackles, Sterns can be a major factor. He is one of the more consistent tacklers on this defense. He has missed just three opportunities. He does have the one interception on the season and the Longhorns defense could use a few more of those plays this year.

This year Charlie Brewer has thrown two picks in two games. Brewer will likely give this defense opportunities to snag one away from the offense. Sterns could be that guy provided he can tough out the turf toe that he will likely deal with all season.
