How defensive backs line up
Despite having flashy names in the secondary, the unit struggled at times. D’Shawn Jamison was the best defensive back on the Texas side most times, but the safeties struggled consistently. Hopefully, Kwiatkowski is able to align the Longhorns’ players in better positions.
Starting at cornerbacks, Jamison and Josh Thompson should be safe to once again start on the outside. Nickelback will bring a few questions, depending on what kind of player will be deployed. A traditional cornerback such as transfer Darion Dunn could start or a more traditional safety, Chris Adimora, may stay put. Kwiatkowski may also change it up based on situational downs.
Moving up to safety, B.J Foster is expected to start at strong safety. Tyler Owens will compete with him but Foster’s experience will help him win the job. Free safety will have a younger guy roaming around in either Jerrin Thompson or J.D. Coffey. Thompson replaced Caden Sterns after his opt-out and performed admirably. Coffey is a true freshman who brings a ton of expectations. Starting expectations may be a tad much here, but spring ball brings competition for a reason.
