Excitement is within the Texas program, with expectations rising on the daily. Here are three storylines to watch for going into the spring.

Half the battle of breaking in new coaching staffs is getting their schemes implemented. On the offensive side of the ball, Sarkisian should be breaking in a much more complex system than Tom Herman. For Pete Kwiatkowski, will he stick with the base 3-4 from Chris Ash, or will the 2-4-5 he traditionally ran at Washington make an appearance?

Adapting is going to be easier for the younger players. Either they did not know how Herman/Ash’s schemes worked (freshman) or they were still learning the ropes. Upperclassmen are going to be where the difficulties arise, as the wheel is more or less being reinvented. Either way, everyone is going to need time to learn their new responsibilities.

Both Sarkisian and Kwiatkowski’s schemes are proven to work at the highest level. The Alabama offensive coordinator ran the most electrifying offense in the country for two seasons, while Washington consistently produced stout defenses. The quicker plays and ideas are installed, the better Texas will look going into the season.
