Texas legend Colt McCoy dishes on the Red River Rivalry

Former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy doesn’t think it gets any better than the Red River Rivalry.

McCoy recently joined Big 12 Radio on SiriusXM to discuss what that particular game meant to him as a player. In his own words, the reason you come to Texas is to play in that specific game and atmosphere.

Even with Texas A&M on the schedule, McCoy and his teammates circled one game on the schedule each season. Although the Aggies were in-state rivals at the time, there was no game that the Longhorns looked forward to more than playing the Oklahoma Sooners in the Cotton Bowl.

Someone should probably remind Texas A&M fans of this. In all seriousness, the Red River Rivalry is no doubt one of the best rivalry games in all of college football each season. McCoy has played in numerous stadiums and atmospheres, but the hatred and passion between Texas and Oklahoma is incomparable.

The former Longhorns legend defeated the Sooners three out of his four years as the starting quarterback at Texas, including the upset of No. 1 ranked Oklahoma in 2008.

As many do, McCoy hopes to one day experience the unique atmosphere as a fan.
