For the second time in 14 months, Texas linebacker Juwan Mitchell has entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Chip Brown of Horns247 reported in March that Mitchell began telling teammates that he was leaving the team. According to his sources, Mitchell has been struggling academically.
The former junior college transfer spent two seasons in Austin and was the team’s leading tackler from the 2020 season. He started eight of the 10 games that he appeared in and compiled 62 tackles (32 solo), 4.5 tackles for loss, one quarterback hurry, one pass breakup and one fumble recovery.

If Mitchell does in fact leave the program, Texas will be thin at the position since starting linebacker DeMarvion Overshown is currently sidelined due to a shoulder injury. It’s a great opportunity for players such as Jaylan Ford and David Gbenda to step up during spring ball.
Mitchell was a former three-star JUCO signee from the 2019 recruiting class and totaled 99 tackles, eight tackles for loss and three sacks throughout his two seasons in Austin.
