Texas LB Ayodele Adeoye enters the transfer portal

Although the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach has yet to be announced, one Texas linebacker won’t wait to find out.

Texas linebacker Ayodele Adeoye becomes the first player to enter the NCAA transfer portal following the termination of head coach Tom Herman.

Although Adeoye’s junior year was cut short in 2020 due to shoulder surgery, he had an impressive sophomore campaign for the Longhorns. He played in all 13 games and started 10 times throughout the 2019 season, compiling 45 tackles, three tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two pass breakups and one interception.

According to Max Olson of The Athletic, the third-year linebacker has entered the transfer portal and will likely continue his career elsewhere.

Adeoye enrolled at the University of Texas as a four-star recruit and the No. 6 inside linebacker out of the 2018 recruiting class. He’s dealt with a variety of injuries since arriving on the Forty Acres, but the elevated play of Texas linebackers Juwan Mitchell and DeMarvion Overshown has made it tough for him to see significant playing time moving forward.

Newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian has yet to finalize his defensive coaching staff.
