Texas lands at No. 17 in 247Sports’ projection of the AP Top 25

Is No. 17 too high, too low, or just right for Texas ahead of 2022?

After a horrendous 5-7 showing in 2021, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian cleaned house of players not fitting into the culture and brought in a slew of new talent.

His first recruiting class came in at No. 5 in the country, whilst also adding a top-10 transfer class. The new culture surrounding Texas has the college football world excited for what’s to come, although some are already calling for its next head coach.

Nonetheless, there is a growing belief by most that the Longhorns will turn it around in 2022. Even 247Sports is high on Texas’ potential this season and ranked them No. 17 in their projection of the preseason AP Top 25.

The Longhorns will have a chance to prove their ranking when they play No. 1 Alabama Week 2 and also have to take on No. 7 Oklahoma, No. 11 Baylor, and No. 25 Oklahoma State over the course of the season.

Sarkisian and company will need a very effective fall camp to prepare for the season, and maybe even add another couple transfers to help bolster the defense.

Texas will have several new pieces in place for a bounce back season, it is now just a matter of not falling on their face, which they have been prone to do.
