Texas is building a juggernaut at running back

Texas aims to continue leveraging its national brand.

The Texas Longhorns presently have one of the best backfields in the country. Their already strong running back depth could get even deeper today.

Cedric Baxter Jr. is set to announce his college decision on Wednesday evening. The borderline five-star prospect out of Orlando would be a huge get for multiple reasons.

Baxter would potentially become the fifth running back that could get significant playing time in the 2023 season. He projects to join fellow elite talent Tre Wisner in the backfield at Texas for this class.

Winning out for running backs is nothing new for Texas in recent cycles. However, winning for On3’s No. 1 ranked running back in SEC country is a statement of its own.

Florida running backs of Baxter’s caliber go to places like Alabama. Trent Richardson and Trey Sanders chose the Crimson Tide out of the Sunshine State.

Obviously, Nick Saban is not hurting for talent. Nevertheless, winning over the likes of Arch Manning, Derek Williams Jr, Johntay Cook, Malik Muhammad and others of comparable talent is proof that Texas is still a destination for top recruits.

Let’s look at a few players Baxter could join in the backfield once Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson depart for the NFL after this upcoming season as expected.
