Two of the primary injury concerns heading into Texas’ matchup with TCU on Oct. 3 surrounds running back Bijan Robinson and wide receiver Jake Smith.
Robinson experienced an awkward, scary landing on his neck and back against Texas Tech. At the time, he tried to hurdle the defender but got flipped into the air. He was able to walk off the field under his own power, but it’s certainly worth being monitored.
When Texas head coach Tom Herman met with the media via a virtual press conference on Monday, he provided an update to Robinson’s status this week.
“Bijan Robinson did not practice yesterday (Sunday) but was moving around pretty good. We’re going to try and get him back to practice tomorrow (Tuesday) or Wednesday depending on the speed of his recovery.”
Wide receiver Jake Smith was desperately missed in the slot against the Red Raiders. Smith’s talent is unmatched and offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich has packages designed specifically for him.
He was dealing with a hamstring strain that sidelined him for the season opener against UTEP. Smith was expected to practice and test his hamstring the week leading up to Texas’ first road game, but unfortunately wasn’t able to participate due to being sick.
“Good news Jake Smith practiced full speed yesterday (Sunday) at practice. So barring any setbacks this week, we fully expect him to be fully available to us on Saturday against TCU.”
These are certainly positive updates to two offensive weapons that Texas will rely on heavily throughout the 2020 college football season.
