Sarkisian has repeatedly mentioned culture this offseason. It is perhaps the most emphasized talking point coming from the Longhorns’ head coach heading into his second season in Austin.
Culture was a problem well before Steve Sarkisian took over on the Forty Acres. The team has lacked a leader of men since Mack Brown resigned. Neither Charlie Strong nor Tom Herman were built to lead this program for various reasons.
Sarkisian is proactively looking to find solutions, and a new potentially program-changing practice emerged this week.
The Texas head coach opted not to post his depth chart for the public. Sarkisian addressed the purpose of his decision to the media, stating that he wanted players to keep competing for playing time. Making players earn starting roles every week could decrease feelings of entitlement that come easier at a place like Texas.
Texas is actively working to fix its culture, and it could prevent them from reliving last year’s mistakes.
