Texas Football: Which new hire will make the biggest impact in year one?

Longhorns Wire Roundtable discusses which assistant coach will make the biggest impact in year one on the Forty Acres.

Patrick Conn: Kyle Flood, OC/OL Coach

One of the first hires to join Steve Sarkisian’s staff was Kyle Flood. The duo worked together with the Atlanta Falcons before joining once again in Tuscaloosa. Now, Flood joins Sarkisian at the University of Texas and will focus on the development of the offensive line.

He will assume the role of offensive line coach and offensive coordinator at Texas. Despite being named offensive coordinator for the Longhorns, Sarkisian will be calling the plays. What Flood does bring is an immediate improvement at the position. It felt as if Texas was coaching with handcuffs on with Herb Hand leading the group of offensive linemen. That coaching deficiency now gone.

He will also make an impact on the recruiting side. Can Flood bring the Alabama talent to Texas? That remains to be seen, but he’s already offered the top two offensive tackles in the 2022 class. With his experiences as an offensive line coach, Flood should make an immediate impact in 2021.
