Texas Football: Updated look at south end zone expansion, new turf installation

The renovations at Darrell K. Royal-Memorial stadium are looking sharp.

Texas will be debuting a new look inside Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium in 2021.

The $200 million south end zone renovation will be ready for the season opener against Louisiana on Sept. 4, and the new turf installation is nearly complete. A week ago, the Longhorns gave fans a brief look of the old turf being removed from Campbell-Williams field.

Now, the playing turf will have more of a true burnt orange color. To say the south end zone project looks incredible would be an understatement. It brings a whole new look to the stadium.

Texas fans have been anxiously waiting to see how the new turf would look in general, but being able to see the near-finished product next to the iconic Longhorns logo on the south end zone pulls it all together nicely.

New seems to be the name of the game for Texas ahead of the 2021 college football season. Not only will the Longhorns have new playing turf along with the new south end zone renovation, they’ll also be fielding a new head coach, new quarterback and new schemes on both sides of the ball.
