Quinn Ewers’ first season as a Longhorn was a roller coaster full of highs and lows.
Superstar flashes against Alabama and Oklahoma provide a glimmer of hope, while poor outings in games such as Oklahoma State created doubt about Ewers being the guy. However, Steve Sarkisian stuck with Ewers through some iffy performances down the stretch.
Without the luxury of Bijan Robinson in the backfield, much of Texas’ 2023 success rides on the development of its young quarterback.
The Alamo Bowl provided Ewers a chance to lead the Texas offense. Ewers played exceptionally well despite the rushing attack being ineffective. He finished the game throwing for a career-high 369 yards and a touchdown, looking much more comfortable operating the offense.
Building off his performance in the bowl game is going to be essential for Ewers this offseason. He has from now until August to work on his craft as the starting quarterback. Maalik Murphy and Arch Manning are set to push Ewers in the quarterback room.
The talent around Ewers should set him up to thrive going forward. Four out of five offensive lineman return, a better wide receiver unit and a solid staple of running backs make up exciting weapons to work with.
Expectations are lofty for the Longhorns entering 2023. The pressure is on Quinn Ewers to push Texas over the top.
