Texas football roster breakdown: Z-Receiver

Brennan Eagles will be taking over as X-receiver and UT will be in search of a new Z-receiver. Here is a breakdown of the Z-receiver for UT.

Z-Receiver 2 – Tarik Black

Tarik Black came out of high school with a ton of hype, being the top player from the state of Connecticut and a top 15 wide receiver in the class. During his time at Michigan though, Black failed to produce monster numbers. His best season came last year, having 323 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Luckily for both Texas and Black, he will now be working with a capable offensive coordinator and quarterback. Mike Yurcich and Sam Ehlinger will be a major upgrade from Michigan’s Josh Gattis and Shea Patterson. The Wolverine’s offense averaged five less passing attempts and just over 40 passing yards per game compared to the Longhorns last season.

With Yurcich now fully in charge of the play calling, those numbers are only going to grow. Black will have more opportunities to display his skills despite being listed as a backup. His numbers are bound to be higher in the 2020 season than they have been over the past three years combined.
