CON – Lack of high school playing time
One of the big knocks when looking at Murphy as a prospect is the lack of high school experience. Coming out of Junipero Sierra High School, the 2022 five-star prospect got sporadic playing time while current UNLV quarterback Doug Brumfield was the starting quarterback. Then, the state of California canceled their fall football season due to COVID-19.
Murphy’s sophomore season saw him go 26-of-58 with 305 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions. When your quarterback of the future has a career 44.8% completion percentage and 5.2 yards per attempt, it does not exactly give you a ton of confidence.
According to MaxPreps, there are three games on Junipero Sierra’s schedule in February and March. Pending COVID-19 issues within the state of California, Texas fans will have the opportunity to watch Murphy play his first few games as the full-time starter. Hopefully, the quarterback will be able to play a full senior season before stepping foot on campus.
