PRO – Recruiting momentum
This was something we saw when Quinn Ewers committed back in August. When a high profile quarterback commits, momentum with other top prospects from across the country picks up. With Murphy, not only will in-state guys want to hop into the class, but elite blue-chip California players will want to head to Austin as well.
Four-star wide receiver C.J. Williams is one of the biggest names to watch for because of Murphy’s commitment. The Mater Dei prospect is the No. 4 wide receiver in the class and No. 39 prospect in the country. He and Murphy have flirted about playing together on Twitter and even congratulated the quarterback on Saturday. WR Kevin Coleman, OT Kelvin Banks, and OT Kam Dewberry are other offensive names the Longhorns will pushing for as well.
With in-state prospects, Sarkisian’s staff has already built up plenty of momentum. Grabbing another five-star quarterback will bring a lot more clarity to the direction the 2022 class is heading. Outside of his ability on the football field, Murphy’s biggest asset should be becoming one of the top recruiters within the class.
