It’s been an unusual offseason in regards to the recruiting process.
Numerous players have chosen to visit campuses on their own terms for a self-guided tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s exactly what three-star offensive tackle Jack Leyrer plans to do this week after receiving an offer from the University of Texas on August 14.
According to Mike Roach of Horns247, Leyrer will be taking a self-guided tour in Austin on Friday. The 6-foot-6, 275-pound athlete from Highland Park has received offers from Virginia, USC, Stanford, Northwestern, Virginia Tech, Baylor and Iowa State among several others.
He’s the No. 77 offensive tackle in the nation out of the 2021 recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite. As of recently, Texas has done a great job landing blue-chip recruits that showcase either a four or five-star rating. Although Leyrer doesn’t fit that mold yet, the Longhorns do have experience developing former three-star recruits on the offensive line.
Left tackle Sam Cosmi is widely projected to become a top draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. At the time of his recruitment, Cosmi was the No. 104 tackle in his class.
Leyrer provides a solid in-state option at tackle. Although the Longhorns have entered the sweepstakes late, he still plans to announce his commitment prior to the start of his senior year.
