Texas Football: Open practice could provide a view of position battles

Fans will have an in-person preview of the Texas football team tonight.

It’s a new day on the Forty Acres. Texas will showcase it’s 2022 football team in an open practice tonight at 7 P.M. CT.

The reality is, we likely will not learn much from tonight’s practice. Nevertheless, it might let fans see some of what has made position battles difficult to determine to this point.

Steve Sarkisian’s quarterback battle could determine whether or not he succeeds at Texas. For that reason, it’s easy to see why the second-year coach would take extra care with the decision.

From an outside perspective, many want Sarkisian to throw caution to the wind and determine a starter. And while a degree of decisiveness is needed, he will need to exercise wisdom as well.

We have detailed the degree of difficulty that the Alabama game presents should the Longhorns delay the quarterback decision. The ultimate winner of the quarterback battle will need every rep he can get before the game.

With that said, Sarkisian needs time to get his quarterback decision right. Taking the necessary time may ensure that Texas has finally found its coach of the future.
