The slide continues for the Texas Longhorns in terms of college football power rankings.
In USA TODAY Sports re-ranking of the top college football teams, Paul Myerburg lists Texas at No. 43 overall. The Longhorns dropped three spots during their second bye week.
Six other Big 12 programs were listed ahead of Texas, including West Virginia. Oklahoma State deservingly occupied a top 10 spot due to an undefeated 3-0 record.

No. 43 Texas
At one point this season, the Longhorns were confidently sitting within the top 10 of every major poll. Due to back-to-back conference losses in unacceptable fashion, Texas continues to tumble.
Question marks are beginning to rise regarding head coach Tom Herman’s future in Austin. While it may appear as a knee-jerk reaction to some, the skepticism is warranted considering Herman continues to showcase familiar failures each season.
He’s losing to unranked teams and fielding an undisciplined football team each week. According to 247Sports, Texas has the No. 5 most talented roster in the country, therefore there’s no excuses for the shortcomings.
Fortunately for Herman’s case, the Longhorns are still realistically in the Big 12 title race. If they can run the table — primarily defeating Oklahoma State, Kansas State and Iowa State — Texas will be in great shape to secure a spot in the Big 12 Championship game.
