Texas football is disproving another Stewart Mandel prediction

Stewart Mandel had Texas losing Arch Manning or Quinn Ewers by the 2023 season.

Texas football has done what many thought was impossible. The team has retained all three quarterbacks following spring practice.

In doing so, the Longhorns are beating long odds set by The Athletic’s college football editor Stewart Mandel to keep both Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning at the quarterback position. You might recall Mandel gave the Longhorns a 0% chance to bring back both signal callers for the 2023 season.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian added style points to the roster wins by keeping a third blue chip quarterback. Sarkisian did more than simply retain Maalik Murphy. In the spring game, Murphy’s play revealed that the Longhorns backup has one of the stronger and more accurate arms in college football.

The Texas quarterback room is strong. It’s a testament to the work Sarkisian and quarterback’s coach AJ Milwee have done in development and relationship building. Murphy stayed loyal to his team long after the honeymoon was over and Manning still appears locked in with the program. Now the team could look to develop the quarterbacks in succession.
