Texas Football: Defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat will undergo shoulder surgery

Chip Brown of Horns247 reported that defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat is expected to undergo shoulder surgery this offseason.

Sophomore defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat suffered an undisclosed shoulder injury during the Valero Alamo Bowl against Colorado.

The 6-foot-4, 348-pound nose tackle played a vital role in improving Texas’ defensive line this season, finishing the year with 22 tackles, four tackles for loss and one sack. He also added on a pass breakup, quarterback hurry, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

According to Chip Brown of Horns247, Sweat is expected to undergo shoulder surgery this offseason. He will likely miss a portion of spring football while recovering.

Sweat has been a consistent piece of Texas’ defensive line over the last two seasons. As a freshman, he appeared in all 13 games and appeared in every contest as a sophomore.

He tallied a season-high five tackles and a recovered fumble against TCU this season. The second-year defensive lineman also logged two tackles in the Alamo Bowl prior to suffering the shoulder injury in the first half.

It’s unclear if defensive coordinator Chris Ash will be retained on new head coach Steve Sarkisian’s staff.
