Texas’ offense will play a key role in the team reaching its goals in 2023.
The unit returns all but one starter from last season, and quarterback Quinn Ewers has appeared to turn the corner this offseason. Adding Georgia wide receiver AD Mitchell via the transfer portal along with the return of Isaiah Neyor, Ewers will have a plethora of weapons to throw to. Needless to say, there’s plenty to be excited about in Austin.
Phil Steele recently mentioned Texas as one of the top projected scoring offenses in 2023. The Longhorns landed at No. 8 in Steele’s rankings, behind schools such as Tennessee, USC, Oregon, and SMU. Here’s what On3’s Chandler Vessels had to say about Texas’ placement in the ranking.
Texas fans have hope for a breakthrough in Steve Sarkisian‘s third season, and the offense is a major reason why. The Longhorns lose the heartbeat of their offense in running back Bijan Robinson, putting the pressure on quarterback Quinn Ewers to take a step forward in his second year as starter.
The No. 1 quarterback in the 2021 class, Ewers had 2,177 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions in 10 games this past season. He should have plenty of weapons at his disposal thanks to the returns of Xavier Worthy, Jordan Whittington and tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders as well as the addition of Georgia transfer AD Mitchell.
Steele appears to have cautious optimism regarding Texas’ offense this season, but don’t be surprised if the Longhorns land within the top five once the season concludes.
