Texas earns a No. 2 seed, faces No. 15 Colgate in the Round of 64

No. 2 Texas will take on No. 15 Colgate on Thursday. The winner will face No. 7 Texas A&M or No. 10 Penn State.

The Texas Longhorns (26-8) dance their way onto the No. 2 line this March. They’ll face the Colgate Raiders (26-8) on Thursday in the Round of 64. The game will test the Longhorns’ ability to defend against three-point shots.

Colgate is known for two things: Elite experience and long range shooting. The Raiders are the best three-point shooting team in the nation, shooting a scorching 40% as a team.

The bigger story is who the Longhorns could face in their second game. The No. 7 seeded Texas A&M Aggies face the No. 10 Penn State Nittany Lions, another proficient three-point shooting team. Penn State nearly came back to defeat Purdue in its Big Ten Tournament final game.

For the Aggies, Wade Taylor IV is the type of talent that could carry the team on his back. Taylor fits the Kemba Walker mold among players who can take over games in March.

Having seen No. 15 St. Peters upset No. 2 Kentucky last season we won’t rule out the possibility of an upset. Albeit, it’s hard not to look forward to a potential Lone Star Showdown with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line.
