Texas drops into bottom half of ESPN’s latest Big 12 power rankings

In ESPN’s latest Big 12 college football power rankings, Texas falls to the No. 6 spot.

Texas’ tumble continues after a heartbreaking loss to their conference rival.

Oklahoma defeated No. 22 Texas in a four-overtime Red River thriller in Week 5. Neither side showcased quality football as the contest was littered with turnovers and penalties.

However, the Longhorns still have a realistic chance to compete for the Big 12 title this season. The two powerhouse programs in the conference — Texas and Oklahoma — each have two losses on their resume.

There’s only one undefeated team left in Oklahoma State, but they haven’t played the most talented teams in the Big 12 yet. In ESPN’s latest conference power rankings, Iowa State holds the No. 1 spot due to their 3-0 record in league play.

Texas dropped to No. 6 in the conference behind Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Oklahoma and TCU.

  1. Iowa State
  2. Oklahoma State
  3. Kansas State
  4. Oklahoma
  5. TCU
  6. Texas
  7. West Virginia
  8. Baylor
  9. Texas Tech
  10. Kansas

There’s very slim chances for one of these programs to represent the Big 12 in the College Football Playoff this year, but the conference title is certainly  open for the taking.
