Texas commit Colin Simmons earns Defensive MVP in State Championship win

Colin Simmons finished the game with eight tackles, three sacks, three tackles for loss, and one forced fumble.

Colin Simmons, a five-star recruit committed to Texas, led Duncanville to their second consecutive State Championship win against North Shore with a final score of 49-33.

Simmons finished the game with eight tackles, three sacks, three tackles for loss, and one forced fumble. He was a wrecking ball, and the North Shore offensive line couldn’t stop him from getting to the backfield.

The five-star edge committed to Texas on August 10 and is set to join the Longhorns as they leave the Big 12 for the SEC. Simmons could see valuable snaps as a true freshman.

Simmons is ranked as the No. 2 edge in the country and No. 3 overall recruit in Texas, according to On3’s industry ranking.

He will join a Texas team that will be losing key  defensive players to the NFL draft, such as T’Vondre Sweat, Byron Murphy, and Jaylan Ford.

Simmons is one of the Longhorns’ three five-star recruits for the class of 2024, and Texas currently holds the No. 6 overall recruiting class.
