Texas commit Billy Walton III quietly has outstanding season

Billy Walton III made his mark on the Texas High School Football season.

Billy Walton III might not receive the shine or recognition that other recruits have received. Nevertheless, he was one of the more productive Texas commits in the 2023 recruiting class.

Walton put up crazy numbers for state champion South Oak Cliff Golden Bears. He finished the season with 18 sacks, 100 total tackles and 32 tackles for loss in 14 games played.

Walton concluded his high school career with 39 sacks. As a sophomore he totaled 9 sacks before compiling 12 sacks last season.

The productive edge rusher is rated as a three-star and the No. 466 overall player in the On3 consensus. Albeit, it’s productive players like Walton that become the next Jaylan Ford or Jonathon Brooks at their respective positions.

Without placing expectations on Walton, it’s still reasonable to keep an eye on the talented player. While measurable traits are important to projecting a player, sometimes projection might be as simple as recognizing which players produced at the high school level.
