Texas Christian vs Texas: Three things the Longhorns need to do

Defense needs to tackle

A lot was made of the Chris Ash hire and what it would mean for the this defense. One of the big keys had to be his emphasis on rugby style tackling that was going to help this defense from stopping the bleeding. Against an inferior Texas-El Paso team, it appeared that way. However, against Texas Tech the tackling became an issue.

Ash stated that the defense was “embarrassed” after that performance. The Red Raiders had too many opportunities for yards after contact in which if Texas made the tackle at first contact then they likely don’t score 56 points against this defense. With Texas Christian, it doesn’t appear to get any easier, at least not after their showing in the first game of the year.

Against ISU, TCU threw for over 400 yards between Matthew Downing and Max Duggan. The Longhorns will need to play good coverage and bring down the Horned Frogs that caught four touchdown passes in their close loss to the Cyclones.
