Texas brings back Duane Akina as defensive analyst

Texas is officially back to being DBU.

It has been a busy weekend on the Forty Acres between the transfer portal, early enrollees moving in and coaches coming and going.

On Saturday, Texas hired Duane Akina as a defensive analyst. He spent 12 years in Austin during the Mack Brown era before leaving for Stanford and Arizona.

Akina is a huge difference maker to the Texas staff, coaching three Jim Thorpe winners during his time in Austin. The addition of former Arizona defensive coordinator Johnny Nansen to the staff will greatly improve the Longhorns’ defense. With help from Pete Kwiatkowski, they should be one of the top defenses in the country.

Malik Muhammad, Terrance Brooks, Andrew Mukuba, Michael Taaffe, Kobe Black, Derek Williams, Xavier Filsaime, and other defensive backs will benefit from Akina’s expertise and help them advance to the next level.
