Texas appears in good hands at quarterback position

Arch Manning received a rave review in one practice report from Inside Texas.

Stop us if you’ve heard it before: The Texas quarterback room is loaded.

You know the story. The Longhorns followed the addition of five-star transfer quarterback Quinn Ewers in the 2022 offseason with five-star quarterback Arch Manning in the following recruiting class. Now Texas enters its second season with both quarterbacks on the team.

We have written extensively on what Ewers brings the Texas offense at the position. There is no quarterback controversy, but the Longhorns are in a great position if Ewers were not able to perform at a high level.

Arch Manning received a rave review in one practice report from Inside Texas. Ewers also received a glowing description from the report, but what seemed noteworthy was the area in which Inside Texas’ source highlighted in regard to Manning: His accuracy.

Based on early impressions, Ewers could be on another level compared to past iterations of the sometimes maligned signal caller. We believe he can be a top passer next season. Albeit, the quarterback next on the depth chart is good enough to keep Ewers from complacency.

The Texas quarterback room is great because of its high floor as much as its ceiling. We have a good idea of what Ewers can bring at the position. But the competition within the room should drive both quarterbacks to get better every day. There might not be an official quarterback competition, but make no mistake: They’re both competing.

Texas should have high quality quarterback play next season. Look for more reliable play from the position in 2024.
