Texas A&M loses out on 2024 5-Star DT to future SEC foe

Texas A&M found themselves on the outside looking after 2024 5-star DT David Stone officially committed to Oklahoma on Saturday night

Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class is all but complete, with several high-priority prospects announcing their commitments this fall. Still, after one of the most talented defensive prospects to date made his announcement on Saturday night while giving Aggie fans a slight tinge of hope in the process, 2024 five-star defensive tackle David Stone went on to commit to the Oklahoma Sooners.

Stone’s recruiting trajectory had been pointing towards the Sooners for most of the summer, though Miami and Michigan State continued to gain ground late. For the Aggies, Stone’s cryptic social media post vaunted the Maroon and White back into the conversation after taking an unofficial visit to College Station in early March.

Jimbo Fisher’s recent success in landing some of the top prospects in the defensive trenches over the last few recruiting cycles culminated with securing 2023 five-star DT David Hicks Jr., while the 2024 cycle includes four-star DE Dealyn Evans and rising three-star DT Gabriel Reliford. As a native of Oklahoma, Stone’s inclusion of Texas A&M in his final list speaks volumes of how revered the Aggies have become at recruiting for the position.

According to 247Sports Composite, Stone is currently positioned as the 6th-ranked player in the 2024 cycle, the 2nd-ranked defensive lineman, and the 3rd-ranked player in Florida, as he is set to embark on his final senior campaign at the prestigious IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
