Texas A&M isn’t receiving a whole lot of pre-season love ahead of the 2023 season

Ranked in the pre-season Top 25 by only one outlet (Sporting news), Texas A&M is officially in “prove it” mode ahead of the 2023 season

Texas A&M and head coach Jimbo Fisher are trying desperately to put their dreadful performance during the 2022 season behind them once and for all, but until wins are earned on the field in a consistent manner, major media outlets will continue to doubt the Maroon and White heading into the 2023 campaign.

From a rankings standpoint, those of us who cover the program on a daily basis felt that the Aggies would probably make it within multiple media outlets’ pre-season Top 25 rankings, yet after the first wave of said rankings have been released, Texas A&M was included in only one Top 25 list, as Sporting News placed them at No. 20, excluded from USA Today Sports, ESPN, and CBS Sports.

Just as a quick reminder, this is all more than fair, as the Aggies are officially in “prove it” mode ahead of summer and fall training camp. After a highly productive spring season, this team is composed of veteran leadership and five-star talent from head to toe, while a litany of transfer portal additions could still be on the horizon.

As with every contending program, the quarterback position can make it or break your chances, and with sophomore Conner Weigman and backup Max Johnson bringing tremendous arm talent and shear confidence to the fold, Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher is more than willing to push the pressure on either young man’s shoulder, especially within the always tough SEC schedule.
