BREAKING: Bronny James commits to USC, giving Trojans brand-name buzz

UCLA is the blue-blood college hoops program in L.A., but next season, #USC will have the glamor. It’s a rare thing.

It has happened. Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, was the most high-profile recruit in this current class who had not yet committed to a college basketball program. Guess what? He committed to USC. The news broke on Saturday afternoon, hours before LeBron’s Lakers face the Golden State Warriors in Game 3 of the NBA Western Conference semifinals.

There is a lot to process here, and you can trust that we at Trojans Wire — who have written a lot about this subject already (check our archives on Bronny, Isaiah Collier, and Boogie Ellis) — will give you complete coverage and analysis.

The short story: USC has solidified itself as a top-20 preseason team with a formidable roster, a deep backcourt, and lots of scoring threats. The Trojans still need a stretch four or another grunt-worker power forward who can defend and rebound, but Bronny gives them another backcourt scorer who can work in combinations with Collier and Boogie. Coach Andy Enfield will have tough decisions to make, but they’re tough decisions in a “first world problem” kind of way. Never before has Enfield had so much talent to work with at USC.

Following Trojan hoops will be fun and — yes — a little glamorous with Bronny aboard. USC will actually have more sex appeal than UCLA in men’s college basketball.

That’s quite a plot twist.
