Texans RB Joe Mixon ruled out for Week 5 vs. Bills

The Houston Texans will have to wait for their starting running back to return to action.

According to Ian Rapaport of NFL Network, Joe Mixon has been ruled out for Sunday’s Week 5 game against the Bills.

He’s also missed Weeks 3 and 4 after injuring his ankle in Week 2.

After seeing what Derrick Henry did against the Bills in Week 4, Mixon has to be frustrated that he can’t go for this upcoming matchup.

Mixon was having a great start to the year. The eight-year veteran was averaging 4.7 yards per carry before going down with his ankle injury. Granted it was only on 39 carries, but he was averaging the most yards per pop since his sophomore season in 2018.

The former pro bowler has four 1,000-yard seasons in his career. He’s one of the leaders on offense for the Texans, so his presence will be missed.

The health concerns with the Texans’ ground game don’t stop with Mixon. Backup running back Dameon Pierce is questionable to play with a hamstring injury.

The backfield will be left for Cam Akers to take over on Sunday, with some Dare Ogunbowale mixed in as well.

On the bright side for Houston, wide receiver Tank Dell is ready to return to action after missing last week with a chest injury.
