Texans’ Deshaun Watson, J.J. Watt land among top 50 of NFLPA merch sales list

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson and DE J.J. Watt were on the top 50 list of player merchandise sales according to official NFLPA numbers.

The Houston Texans have two of the 50-best players in the NFL.

At least, they do in merchandise sales.

According to new data from the NFLPA released on April 17, the Texans had two players land on the top 50 list of player sales among officially licensed products from March 1, 2019, to Feb. 29, 2020. Those two players were Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson at No. 27 and All-Pro defensive end J.J. Watt.

Watson’s No. 27 spot was 14th among quarterbacks. Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, Lamar Jackson, Baker Mayfield, Aaron Rodgers, Jimmy Garoppolo, Dak Prescott, Drew Brees, Russell Wilson, Carson Wentz, Josh Allen, Mitch Trubisky, and Sam Darnold were all ahead of the Texans’ field general.

Watt’s No. 32 place was the third-highest among defenders, and he was one of eight defenders to even crack the list. The only defenders higher than Watt were Khalil Mack and Nick Bosa.

The Texans weren’t the only team on the list to represent the AFC South. The Jacksonville Jaguars had two quarterbacks on the list in rookie Gardner Minshew and Nick Foles.

Three-time All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who also had a 99 rating on Madden NFL 20 and was still technically a Texans player during the time frame of the list, did not make the top 50.
