A former University of Tennessee tennis player will have a chance to win a medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

Former Volunteer standout Tennys Sandgren and his doubles partner, Austin Krajicek, advanced to the semifinals of the Olympic tennis tournament with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) victory over Germany’s tandem of Alexander Zver and Jan-Lennard Struff in the quarterfinals.

Team USA’s duo will face Croatia’s tandem of Mate Pavic and Nicola Mektic on Thursday.

In the quarterfinals, Krajicek and Sandgren combined for four service aces, 36 of their 41 first service points and converted 23-of -24 points on their second serve. They also recorded only seven unforced errors.
