Tennessee will kick off its 2022 season Thursday versus Ball State at Neyland Stadium (7 p.m. EDT, SEC Network).
The meeting is the first between the Vols and Cardinals.
Tennessee is 8-0 against current Mid-American Conference opponents all time.
Ball State is one of two MAC teams Tennessee will play this season. The Vols will host Akron Sept. 17 at Neyland Stadium.
The Vols have played Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Northern Illinois and Ohio throughout its history. Tennessee has never played Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami University, Toledo and Western Michigan.
Western Michigan announced the Broncos will play at Tennessee Sept. 19, 2026.
