Taylor Mikesell set to go in WNBA draft Monday night

Taylor Mikesell can make Ohio State proud tonight in the WNBA draft! #GoBucks

It’s been quite some time since the Ohio State women’s basketball team has had a player selected in the WNBA draft, but that drought figures to end tonight.

That’s because OSU’s leading scorer from last season, sharpshooter Taylor Mikesell, is on the board and figures to be selected somewhere inside the top twenty when the draft gets off the ground in studio from New York beginning at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.

The last time a Buckeye was selected in the WNBA draft was in 2018 when Kelsey Mitchell was selected No. 2 overall by the Indiana Fever. OSU actually had two selections that year with Stephanie Mavunga going in the second round, also to the Indiana Fever.

All told, there have been 16 Ohio State players selected in the 27 total drafts, with this season looking to make it 17 in 28 instances. Mikesell is looking to become the sixth Buckeye to go in the first round, joining Mitchell (No. 2 overall in 2018), Tayler Hill (No. 4 in 2013), Samantha Prahalis (No. 6 in 2012), Jantel Lavender (No. 5 in 2011) and Jessica Davenport (No. 2 in 2007).

And there’s a good chance she’ll hear her name called somewhere in the first round (top 12 picks). She is one of fifteen players that will be in attendance in New York for all the festivities.

When she’s picked, we’ll have all you need to know, so stay tuned.
