Don’t worry about it

Control what you can control. That was the full mantra of McDermott’s press conference. There’s so much going on right now for the Bills that’s new and there are so many things to worry about, McDermott’s not over-analyzing certain things.

Among those situations he could worry about is the reality that the NFL season could still be cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic. But McDermott mentioned how he has no say in that. What he does have a say in is practices, roster decisions and in-house things in Orchard Park. That’s where his focus is and he’s not concerned with a potentially cancelled or delayed season right now.

“That’s the mental toughness part. You’ve got to be able to compartmentalize. My wife always says she think I do a good job of being able to compartmentalize more than most people and I think that’s been true in this case. As a coach, I focus on what I can focus on and what I can control and I’m getting myself and our team ready to go and we’ll let the other people who handle those decisions, make those decisions,” McDermott said.
