10 players work out for Broncos, including Nigerian DL Kenneth Odumegwu

The Broncos brought in 10 players for workouts on Monday, including Nigerian defensive lineman Kenneth Odumegwu.

The Denver Broncos brought in 10 players for workouts on Monday, according to the NFL’s transaction wire (via KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis).

One of the most interesting players on the list is Kenneth Odumegwu, a Nigerian defensive lineman who entered the league as a member of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program with the Green Bay Packers in 2023. He grew up playing soccer and later switched to basketball before being recruited to Osi Umenyiora’s football camp. The 23-year-old lineman is yet to appear in a regular season game in the NFL.

Former CFL draft pick Luiji Vilain is also on the list. The 26-year-old linebacker turned down a chance to play in Canada and opted to instead join the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He has dressed for five games (four with the Vikings and one with the Carolina Panthers), totaling four tackles.

Broncos host 3 cornerbacks for tryouts

The Broncos brought in cornerbacks Christian Holmes, Zech McPhearson and Damarion Williams for tryouts on Monday.

Christian Holmes wasn’t the only defensive back who visited the Denver Broncos on Monday.

Giants hosted several recent draft picks as part of mass workout

The New York Giants hosted 15 players for workouts on Thursday, including five players who were recently draft picks.

The New York Giants had a busy day in East Rutherford on Thursday, complete with the week’s final practice, head coach and player press conferences, and a mass workout that included several recent draft picks.

Among those in attendance were cornerbacks D.J. James, Zech McPhearson, Damarion Williams and Kyu Blu Kelly, and quarterback Chris Oladokun.

James was a sixth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in the 2024 NFL draft but was waived after starting his career on the non-football injury (NFI) list. He was named Second-Team All-SEC in 2022 at Auburn.

McPhearson was a fourth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2021 NFL draft and has the most experience of any drafted player who worked out. He’s appeared in 33 career games, recording 30 tackles, one QB hit, one sack, and two passes defensed. McPhearson suffered a torn Achilles during the 2023 preseason and missed the whole year.

Williams was a fourth-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2022 NFL draft and has appeared in 15 career games, recording 24 tackles and two passes defensed.

Kelly was a fifth-round pick of the Ravens in the 2023 NFL draft and has also made brief stops with the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, and Washington Commanders. He’s appeared in eight career games and recorded five tackles.

Oladokun was a seventh-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2022 NFL draft but found his way to the Kansas City Chiefs after being released as a rookie. He’s picked up two Super Bowl rings as a member of the Chiefs, serving as the quarterback of their practice squad.

The following players also took part in Thursday’s workout:

  • Safety Al Blades
  • Wide receiver Kaden Davis
  • Wide receiver Alex Erickson

None of the players who worked out were immediately signed.

Eagles rookie RB Will Shipley switches jersey number

Philadelphia Eagles rookie running back Will Shipley is switching uniform numbers ahead of the season opener vs. the Green Bay Packers

The Eagles have trimmed their roster from 90 players to a league-mandated 53 ahead of the season opener against the Packers.

With over 35 players getting released or waived, it opened up an opportunity for some players to switch uniform numbers.  After Zech McPhearson said goodbye to Philadelphia, talented rookie, and No. 22 overall pick, Quinyon Mitchell swooped in and snatched the No. 27.

Mitchell wasn’t alone, as former Clemson star running back Will Shipley switched from the No. 39 to No. 28.

Like Mitchell, Shipley’s new number became available after Philadelphia waived cornerback Josh Jobe and didn’t resign him to the practice squad.

Zech McPhearson says goodbye to Philadelphia as Eagles begin 53-man roster cuts

Zech McPhearson says goodbye to Philadelphia as Eagles begin 53-man roster cuts

The Philadelphia Eagles are amid their 53-man roster cutdown, and one veteran cornerback is saying goodbye to the city.

The news hasn’t been revealed, but Zech McPhearson may have let the cat out of the bag when he posted a goodbye note to Philadelphia on his social media pages.

McPhearson missed the 2023 season after suffering an Achilles injury in a preseason matchup against the Cleveland Browns. McPhearson had been taking snaps as a slot cornerback when he was injured.

With Philadelphia overhauling the cornerback position in 2024, McPhearson appears to be the odd man out, but he could catch on elsewhere or potentially return to the practice squad.
