Could the Chicago Bulls be getting ready to trade guard Zach LaVine to the Orlando Magic?

Such a trade could actually be for the better on both sides of a hypothetical LaVine exchange, pending the return and cost.

Could the Chicago Bulls be getting ready to trade guard Zach LaVine to the Orlando Magic? With the necessary caveat that the Bulls are currently neck deep in what we call Silly Season (that time of year all trade rumors ought to be taken with a hefty grain of salt), we are indeed hearing rumbles such a deal might be on the table.

And while not everyone is happy with such a potential swap, there is at least a case to be made that such a trade could actually be for the better on both sides of a hypothetical LaVine exchange, pending the return and cost.

The hosts of the “Locked On Bulls” podcast, Haize and Pat the Designer, spent some time on a recent episode to break down the context surrounding the rumor and their feelings about it.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear their takes.

DeMar DeRozan to the Los Angeles Clippers? Zach LaVine to the Orlando Magic? No thanks

Not everyone is crazy about Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan trade rumbles.

As soon as the league calendar flips to the offseason for the Chicago Bulls (or any ball club in the NBA), one can begin to consider the annual arrival of what some call “silly season” because of all of the nonsensical rumors one begins to hear.

This is of course teams, players, and agents using the media for leverage in making deals, inking contracts, or trying to force trades. And while all may be fair in love and war, when it comes to the fan experience trying to decode what is real and what is a smoke screen, the arrival of so-called silly season can actually be quite maddening.

So when the folks behind the “Bulls Central” YouTube channel put together a clip talking about how they feel regarding rumors of veteran Bulls wing DeMar DeRozan ending up with the Los Angeles Clippers, or star Chicago guard Zach LaVine with the Orlando Magic, we understand where they are coming from.

To hear their gripes about the ubiquity of such rumbles at this time of year (or any), check out the clip embedded above.

Mock trade sees Bulls swap Zach LaVine for Isaiah Stewart straight up

In this mock trade, the Chicago Bulls would trade Zach LaVine to the Detroit Pistons for Isaiah Stewart.

The Chicago Bulls are reportedly focused on trading Zach LaVine this summer. Aaron Kellerstrass of Pippen Ain’t Easy wrote a pair of mock trades to help the Bulls reset. The first was a flip of Alex Caruso and the 11th pick for the third pick, and the second was trading Zach LaVine to the Detroit Pistons for Isaiah Stewart.

“The Orlando Magic and Mortiz Wagner would also be a possibility here, but in this trade, the Bulls get a useful young big man from the Pistons in exchange for getting off LaVine’s contract,” wrote Kellerstrass. “Stewart is only owed $15 million in the first year of his extension next season, so the Bulls would save nearly $30 million in cap space, allowing them to address other needs.

“They get an immediate rotation player in Stewart, who can play both big man spots and improved his 3-point shooting to 38 percent this season. So, the Bulls get two young players without completely blowing up their roster, keep DeRozan and hope to compete while still building for the future. This may be the best of both worlds for the Bulls, who could actually win more games with these additions but also give a nod towards the future.”

By trading LaVine for Stewart, the Bulls would save a ton of money.

Jovan Buha on Zach LaVine-to-Lakers rumors

Zach LaVine was recently at Klutch Sports’ pro day in Los Angeles, which has led some Lakers fans to think a trade could be in the works.

Many people have agreed for a while that the Los Angeles Lakers need an additional star or near-star player if they are to become championship contenders again.

In recent months, a number of trade targets have been mentioned, starting with Kyrie Irving in 2022 and early 2023, to Donovan Mitchell and Trae Young more recently.

Early this season, there was plenty of noise that Zach LaVine of the Chicago Bulls was someone the Lakers would go after. But that didn’t happen, partly because they didn’t want to take on his hefty contract.

LaVine, who is a client of Klutch Sports, the same agency that represents LeBron James and Anthony Davis, was reportedly at Klutch’s pro day recently. Naturally, some Lakers fans may be wondering if LaVine, who played his college ball at the University of California, Los Angeles, wants to come to the Lakers or if the team may be planning to go after him.

Beat writer Jovan Buha of The Athletic shot down those rumors in the latest edition of “Buha’s Block” (at 39:10).

“I was hearing that he had interest in potentially being in LA (and) being a Laker,” Buha said. “Of course, it didn’t play out that way he ended up getting injured again and having foot surgery and the Lakers shifted more toward Dejounte Murray and trying to acquire him.”

“Now could those talks be revisited this summer? I don’t know. I would guess not. I think if you look at what the Lakers need, Zach LaVine checks some of the boxes, but he is a step down from the Donovan Mitchell-Trae Young tier. … There’s also now a mounting history of injuries with him, particularly lower extremity injuries with his knees and now his feet.”

“So I think the injury history mixed with him not being at the level of third star that the Lakers are looking for. That combination to me makes it unlikely he ends up being a Laker.”

LaVine is a capable scorer who can be exciting to watch, but he isn’t a facilitator, which is something L.A. needs if it gives up D’Angelo Russell or Austin Reaves to get a third star.

As Buha noted, he is also injury prone. He played in just 25 games this season due to foot and ankle problems, and he has appeared in more than 67 games just once in the last eight seasons. At the age of 29, it is a huge red flag that LaVine continues to sustain lower body injuries on a regular basis.

On top of that, he has been in the NBA for 10 years now, but he has made it to the playoffs just once and lost in the first round. While he has a career average of 20.5 points a game on a decent 46.4% from the field and 38.2% from 3-point range, there is a perception his production is nothing more than empty calories.

When it comes to what the Lakers need to get to the next level, they need to steer clear of doughnuts and go for either a steak dinner or a healthy vegan meal with plenty of protein.

Magic floated as potential Zach LaVine trade destination for Bulls

The Orlando Magic could make a solid Zach LaVine trade partner for the Chicago Bulls.

As the Chicago Bulls get set to enter the offseason, trading Zach LaVine has to be pretty high on their priorities list. They tried to move him earlier this year, but things didn’t work out. Paul Connor of Sports Grid suggested the Orlando Magic as a potential landing spot for a trade this summer.

“The Magic surprised many this season,” Connor wrote. “Their 47 wins were the franchise’s most since 2010-11. Orlando was bolstered by its top-five defense but ranked 24th in offense, including last in three-pointers made per game. While the team could opt to bank on further development from youngsters Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Jalen Suggs, LaVine’s scoring prowess would immediately improve the overall balance of the roster.”

For the Magic, adding LaVine’s shot creation could help take them to the next level, as their offense fizzled out in the postseason.

And for the Bulls, adding some picks or young pieces in exchange for LaVine would be ideal.

Zach LaVine-Thunder trade idea proposed as potential Bulls option

Could the Chicago Bulls trade Zach LaVine to the Oklahoma City Thunder?

The Chicago Bulls are likely going to try to trade Zach Lavine this summer. Reports indicated that they attempted to deal him earlier in the season, but an injury ended his year, meaning he stuck around. Paul Connor of Sports Grid recently brought up the idea of trading LaVine to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a move that would bring Josh Giddey back to Chicago.

“Josh Giddey’s offensive struggles could prompt Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti, with his boatload of draft capital, to upgrade the shooting guard position,” Connor wrote. “OKC was the youngest No. 1 seed in league history before falling victim to the Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the postseason.

“Adding a player of LaVine’s caliber to pair with MVP runner-up Shai Gilgeous-Alexander might be what the organization needs to reach the next level.”

Bringing in Giddey as the backcourt partner for Coby White would certainly be an interesting idea for the Bulls.

Reacting to DeMar DeRozan-Clippers and Zach LaVine-76ers rumors

Could the Chicago Bulls lose Zach LaVine to the Philadelphia 76ers and DeMar DeRozan to the LA Clippers?

By the time the 2024-25 season starts, the Chicago Bulls roster could look a lot different than it does now. They have the potential to make a ton of different moves this summer, and it would make a ton of sense for them to start planning for the future, rebuilding around Coby White, who looks like a star in the making.

Over the last few weeks, multiple rumors have surfaced regarding the Bulls’ current stars leaving Chicago for other teams. Zach LaVine has been connected to the Philadelphia 76ers in trade rumors, and DeMar DeRozan has been linked to the LA Clippers in free agency rumors.

The CHGO Sports YouTube channel recently discussed these two ideas and what they would mean for the Bulls moving forward.

If the Bulls want to commit to a new rebuild with White at the helm, getting rid of LaVine and letting DeRozan walk make sense as two of the first steps in the process.

Report: Zach LaVine was interested in Lakers trade during season

Chicago Bulls star Zach LaVine was reportedly interested in a trade to the Los Angeles Lakers this past season.

The Chicago Bulls have been trying to trade Zach LaVine for a while now, it seems. There were some rumblings throughout the course of the 2023-24 season, but a season-ending injury ended any hope of him getting moved from Chicago. Now, that will be their plan this summer.

But some of the options that were present during this past season may not be there again this offseason. Teams may choose to go in a different direction or target new people. Jovan Buha of The Atheltic spoke about the Los Angeles Lakers’ potential involvement in the LaVine sweepstakes during a recent edition of his podcast, Buha’s Block.

He said that while LaVine was interested in a move to the Lakers during the season, the deal may not happen this summer. (H/t Joseph Zucker of Bleacher Report)

“I did hear during the season that Zach was intrigued by the potential of being a Laker,” Buha said. “And that was around the time the Zach-to-LA rumors started. I want to say that was like late November, December range. So, around that time through January, I was hearing that he had interest in potentially being in LA. Potentially being a Laker… Now, could those talks be revisited this summer? I don’t know. I would guess not.”

From what Buha is saying, it sounds like a LaVine-Lakers trade isn’t in the cards this offseason.

The Chicago Bulls need to trade Zach LaVine this offseason

The Chicago Bulls need to trade Zach LaVine this offseason.

For a huge chunk of the season, it looked as though the Chicago Bulls were focused on trading Zach LaVine. And based on all of the recent rumors, they are going to try to trade him again this summer. Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report listed a LaVine trade as one of Chicago’s top needs this offseason.

“If LaVine’s trade value isn’t at rock bottom after another injury-impacted season, it’s at least residing in the same zip code,” Buckley wrote. “And that doesn’t change the fact he more or less has to go this offseason. That’s more or less coming directly from the Bulls, too. For all of the big-ticket items on their summer to-do list, a LaVine trade “remains priority one, two and three this summer,” a team source told Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times.

“The Bulls can’t expect much of a return for LaVine, but that almost doesn’t matter. Getting out from under his colossal contract would make it easier for this front office to navigate. Not to mention, subtracting him from the team would ensure the runway stays clear for White’s continued ascension.”

If the Bulls want to move forward with a new direction, they need to trade LaVine.

Do the Philadelphia 76ers really want to trade for Chicago’s Zach LaVine?

Much of this could of course be contingent on whether or not current Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George stays put or not.

The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to improve their roster this 2024 NBA offseason, and whether they do it by using their cap space to sign a free agent to their roster or use the space to absorb a contract, they will be adding a new face to the team.

And we have been hearing some rumbles that the 76ers could be a potential buyer for star Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine regarding the latter of the two options Philadelphia has to choose from. Much of this could of course be contingent on whether or not current Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George stays put or not.

The hosts of the “CHGO Bulls” podcast took some time on a recent show to game out how a LaVine trade to the Sixers might play out — and more importantly, what might be coming back to Chicago in one.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear their thoughts.
