Week 7 inactives: DK Metcalf, and 5 others ruled OUT
This isn’t exactly news the 12th Man wants to hear. The Seattle Seahawks are under two hours away from kicking off against the Arizona Cardinals, but they will have to do so without star wide receiver DK Metcalf.
Unfortunately, they’ll also have to do it without two starting offensive linemen and their primary backup running back. Despite a clean injury report on Friday, the gametime decisions did not go the way the Seahawks obviously wanted them to go.
As for the Cardinals, they will be without two linemen themselves and some secondary help. The full inactives are below:
Zach Charbonnet not expected to play for Seahawks today
According to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN, rookie running back Zach Charbonnet is not expected to play for the Seahawks in today’s home game against the Cardinals. To account for this possibility, yesterday the team elevated undrafted rookie running back SaRodorick Thompson from the practice squad.
It’s a bummer for Charbonnet, who’s off to a good start in his career despite limited time on the field. As a rusher he has totaled 109 yards on 23 attempts – averaging 4.7 yards per carry. Charbonnet has also gotten high marks in pass protection, earning the team’s best pass blocking grade from PFF (85.8).
Seattle also elevated wide receiver Easop Winston Jr. from the practice squad on Saturday. That is likely a hedge in case DK Metcalf (ribs, hip) is on the inactives list.
Seahawks Week 7 injury report: offensive line still hurting
Injuries have been a considerable storyline for the Seattle Seahawks this season. Ever since Week 1, the Seahawks offensive line has been battered with them, and it hasn’t gotten better. Here we are in Week 7, and the men up front are still ailing to a degree.
On Wednesday’s practice, every single starting member of Seattle’s offensive line either did not practice or were limited. The patchwork line has held up remarkably well up to this point, but struggled against Cincinnati.
It is only Wednesday, but this isn’t an optimistic start to the week.

The Seahawks may have hit yet another home run in the NFL draft this year.
The Seahawks may have hit yet another home run in the NFL draft this year. Cornerback Devon Witherspoon is off to an exceptional start and a couple other rookies are starting to flash, as well.
Watch Brian Baldinger break down some big plays from right guard Anthony Bradford and running back Zach Charbonnet from Sunday’s win over the Panthers.
Here are six players who won’t get a ton of attention but deserve some recognition.
The Seattle Seahawks got big games from some of their star players in their victory on Sunday over the Carolina Panthers. That includes a six-catch, 112 yard line from wide receiver DK Metcalf, two touchdowns and 150+ scrimmage yards for running back Ken Walker, 11 tackles and two pass breakups by cornerback Devon Witherspoon and eight tackles plus three quarterback hits for nose tackle Jarran Reed.
While all those guys stood out in obvious ways, the day couldn’t have been won without some outstanding under-the-radar performances. Here are six players who won’t get a ton of attention but deserve some recognition.
RB Zach Charbonnet: Walker had a magnificent game, but Charbonnet also contributed to a superb rushing attack. He totaled 46 yards on nine carries (5.1 per attempt) and came just inches away from scoring his first touchdown in the NFL.
TE Colby Parkinson: With Will Dissly sidelined by an injury this week, Seattle needed the other tight ends to step up and they did. Parkinson dropped one pass, but he made up for it by catching three others in significant moments.
TE Noah Fant: Now the true No. 1 tight end on the depth chart, Fant had another strong outing, catching four of five targets from Geno Smith and totaling 41 yards.
LB Jordyn Brooks: A lot of players stood out defensively, but with Bobby Wagner having a relatively quiet game, Brooks stepped up and made a bunch of stops. He racked up nine total tackles – including five solo tackles – plus a QB hit.
OLB Boye Mafe: The Seahawks pass rush finally showed some signs of life against the Panthers. It began with Mafe’s first sack of the season and he registered another QB hit later on.
K Jason Myers: Seattle’s kicker had a brutal start to the 2023 season, coming into the game just 3/6 on his field goal attempts. However, Myers made up for it and more against Carolina. He went 5/5 on field goals, keeping the Seahawks in the game in the first half while the offense was struggling.
Seahawks fans are likely to see Bobo operating with the starters early in the regular season.
Amongst rookies gaining traction for the Seahawks this preseason, wide receiver Jake Bobo has performed exceptionally well. His 6-foot-5, 215-pound frame makes him a force to be reckoned with in the intermediate passing game. Bobo tallied three receptions for 55 yards and one touchdown against the Vikings and two receptions for 43 yards against the Cowboys while making an impact as a blocker and on special teams.
Bobo, an undrafted free agent out of UCLA, led the Bruins with 57 catches in 2022. Yet, out of all 32 NFL clubs, he managed to fall right into the hands of the Seahawks, who were already loaded at receiver.
Perhaps when director of college scouting Aaron Hineline and senior director of pro personnel Matt Berry consulted, they took note of Bobo’s attributes. Could they have stumbled upon Bobo’s highlights while scouting prospect running back Zach Charbonnet who also played at UCLA? It’s a fair hypothesis.
Nevertheless, Berry, Hineline and a handful of other Seahawks personnel department administrators received promotions this offseason. With a locker room full of dynamic weapons, Bobo only adds another facet to a well balanced offensive attack.
With wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba soon undergoing wrist surgery and Dee Eskridge serving a six-game suspension, Seahawks fans are likely to see Bobo operating with the starters early in the regular season.
Charbonnet may appear more frequently in the preseason finale against the Packers
Following his team’s preseason win over the Cowboys, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll shared some acclaim for rookie running back Zach Charbonnet, who has been featured sparingly in action this preseason.
Charbonnet’s three carries for 31 yards Saturday night featured a emphatic 29-yard first quarter run that sent a frenetic roar through Lumen Field.
There’s so much upside to how Charbonnet will function in tandem with starting running back Ken Walker. It’ll be interesting to see how the Seahawks use their multi-back system to attack opposing defenses.
Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron has shown a balanced gameplan this preseason and Carroll wants Charbonnet to understand his importance in the scheme of things. Here’s what Carroll said about Charbonnet after the game, per Mike Dugar at the Athletic.
“We feel like we already know who we got — we think we’ve got a hell of a football player. There’s so much stuff that he does well… He’s explosive. He’s consistent. He’s really smart. You can totally count on the guy.”
The fraternity that is Seahawks football starts with the leadership of Carroll and his ability to bring a sense of togetherness in the locker room. For Charbonnet, it’s essential that Carroll conveys optimism and trust to strengthen his morale and motivation.
So far, Charbonnet has averaged 6.43 yards on just seven carries the entire preseason. His three receptions suggests he may play as a dump off option, or feature in the screen passing game for quarterback Geno Smith when appropriate. Charbonnet may appear more frequently in the preseason finale against the Packers, but for now Carroll is pleased with his timely contributions.
Saturday night’s all right for rookies showing out for the Seattle Seahawks
Saturday night’s all right for rookies showing out for the Seattle Seahawks. It is halftime and the Seahawks are leading the Cowboys 17-7 and it has been an explosive two quarters for Seattle’s rookies.
When the Seahawks drafted wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the first round, fans were understandably excited. On Saturday night, that excitement is going to evolve into a fervor. After this massive reception, Seattle scored on the next play to regain the lead.
JSN wasn’t the only rookie receiver showing off his moves. Former UCLA Bruin had a touchdown last week, and is picking up where he left off. Bobo is certainly making his case he belongs on this roster.
Don’t think the wide receivers were the only ones having fun. Fellow Bruin Zach Charbonnet had an explosive 29-yard run to get into Dallas’ territory immediately following Bobo’s 28-yard reception. Additionally, SaRodorick Thompson Jr. scored a one-yard touchdown to extend Seattle’s head to ten.
