Morgahn Fingall named AVCA Southeast Region Player of the Year

Tennessee right side player named AVCA Southeast Region Player of the Year.

Tennessee graduate student and right side player Morgahn Fingall was named American Volleyball Coaches Association Southeast Region Player of the Year.

Fingall is the first Lady Vols’ player to earn regional player of the year honors. She was one of four Tennessee players named to the AVCA Southeast Region Team, joined by redshirt freshman setter Caroline Kerr, graduate student and outside hitter Jenaisya Moore.

Graduate student and libero Yelianiz Torres earned All-Region honorable mention.

Fingall is averaging 4.98 points, 4.29 kills, 1.85 digs, 0.77 blocks and 0.30 aces per set this season. She also has a .326 hitting percentage.

Kerr is averaging 11.77 assists, 1.98 digs, 0.65 kills, 0.38 blocks and 0.31 aces per set this season.

Moore recorded double-digit kills in 22 matches this season. She had a career-high 23 kills and 16 digs against Florida.

Torres was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week thee times in 2023. She is averaging a team-high 3.96 digs per set. Torres is also averaging 1.01 assists and 0.30 aces per set this season.

No. 8 Tennessee (23-3, 14-2 SEC) defeated Texas A&M (15-11, 7-9 SEC), 25-22, 25-11, 25-18, Sunday at Reed Arena in College Station, Texas.

Tennessee recorded its 16th sweep of the season and have now won seven consecutive matches.

Jenaisya Moore totaled 17 kills and two assists and posted a .371 hitting percentage for Tennessee.

Morgahn Fingall recorded 12 kills, eight digs, three aces and three blocks. Erykah Lovett finished with 10 digs, five kills and two blocks, while Raeven Chase had seven blocks and five kills.

Setter Caroline Kerr recorded 34 assists, four digs, three kills and one ace, while Yelaniz Torres 10 digs, five assists and one ace for Tennessee, which held the Aggies to a .159 hitting percentage.

No. 10 Tennessee (20-3, 11-2 SEC) defeated Georgia (15-10, 6-7 SEC) in four sets Friday at Food City Center.

Tennessee defeated the Bulldogs, 22-25, 25-13, 25-23, 25-19.

Graduate student and outside hitter Morgahn Fingall recorded her 1,500th career kill in the match against Georgia. She totaled 21 kills and six blocks, while recording a .425 hitting percentage.

Jenaisya Moore recorded 20 kills and three blocks for Tennessee. Raeven Chase finished with eight kills for the Lady Vols.

Redshirt freshman setter Caroline Kerr was the Lady Vols’ leading passer with 54 assists.

Yelianiz Torres totaled 14 digs and one ace for Tennessee.

Tennessee has reached 20 wins this season, marking the third time the Lady Vols have accomplished the feat under head coach Eve Rackham Watt and the 25th time in program history.

No. 12 Tennessee (18-3, 9-2 SEC) defeated Texas A&M (14-7, 6-5 SEC), 25-20, 25-16, 25-22, Sunday in Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center.

Tennessee recorded its 13th sweep of the 2023.

The Lady Vols hit .349 in the match, while holding the Aggies, the SEC’s top blocking team, two three blocks.

Morgahn Fingall led the Lady Vols’ hitting attack, totaling 15 kills. She hit .419 in the match

Jenasisya Moore recorded nine kills and two blocks, while Erykah Lovett added seven kills, 11 digs, one block and one ace. Freshman Caroline Kerr was Tennessee’s leading passer (33 assists). She also had six digs, two kills and one block.

Yelianiz Torres posted 17 digs and two digs.

Arkansas defeats Lady Vols in four sets

Razorbacks defeat Tennessee in four-set SEC match.

No. 10 Arkansas (18-2, 8-0 SEC) defeated No. 12 Tennessee (16-3, 7-2 SEC) in four sets Friday in Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center.

Friday’s win was the second consecutive loss for the Lady Vols, who have lost its last two home matches.

Tennessee won the first set before the Razorbacks captured a 25-27, 25-16, 25-22, 25-20 victory.

The Lady Vols had three players record double-doubles in the match. Jenaisya Moore totaled 13 kills and 10 digs, while Morgahn Fingall posted 12 kills and 15 digs. Redshirt freshman setter Caroline Kerr finished with 49 assists and 19 digs. She also had three blocks.

Tennessee’s Raeven Chase had season highs in both kills and blocks as she totaled 13 kills and five blocks.

Erykah Lovett had 16 digs and three assists, while Yelianiz Torres had 30 digs for the Lady Vols.

Two Lady Vols earn SEC weekly honors

Two Tennessee volleyball players earned SEC weekly honors after the Lady Vols won two road matches against Mississippi State and Ole Miss.

Setter Caroline Kerr was named SEC Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season.

Kerr recorded 43 assists, 13 digs, six kills, two blocks against Mississippi State. She recorded 39 assists, three kills, three blocks and three digs against Ole Miss.

Yelianiz Torres received SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors after averaging 5.86 digs per set in the matches.

Torres totaled 41 digs, seven assists and two aces in seven sets against Mississippi State and Ole Miss. She had 26 digs and seven assists against the Bulldogs and finished with 15 digs and seven assists against the Rebels.
