Trojans Wire talks about commitment from elite 2026 Georgia linebacker

Let’s talk more about Xavier Griffin.

It has not been a boring week for USC football, that’s for sure. We have seen the Trojans flip a prospect from Georgia and lose a prospect who was flipped by Georgia. We have seen some commitments. We have seen a JUCO offensive lineman sign with USC. We have seen a lot. USC is just about to begin preseason camp, and the offseason is about to recede into the past in a very real way. We’re about to talk about on-field football developments for each of the next five months. It really is that time of year; we made it. Xavier Griffin has also made it to USC.

At 1:24 of our recent show at The Voice of College Football, Trojans Wire discusses concerns and impact that surround the new commitment from Georgia, Xavier Griffin. We discuss the coach Henny (Eric Henderson) effect and the impact of D’Anton Lynn’s defense on the field for current and future USC football recruits.

USC defense can change perceptions in 2024 football season

We talked about the ups and downs of recruiting on our recent YouTube show.

On our recent USC show at The Voice of College Football, we at Trojans Wire talked about the new age of recruiting. We stressed the need to keep the excitement of bringing aboard five-star linebackers from Georgia and live with the disappointment of losing a four-star cornerback from Florida in the 2026 class. This is in response to the Xavier Griffin recruitment and the decommitment of Dominick Kelly, a cornerback from IMG Academy. USC then landed a new cornerback from St. John Bosco. There are so many twists and turns to recruiting. One has to roll with the punches and not get too high or too low.

We discussed the multiple decommitments in the 2024 class caused by the poor performance on the field and USC’s issues with NIL.

The silver lining is that the new defensive coaching staff is going to have an opportunity to show recruits, family and coaches what it can do with D’Anton Lynn’s new approach. If the defense can change the narrative, USC’s recruiting outcomes will significantly improve.

The conversation takes place at the nine-minute mark of this video at The Voice of College Football:

Ohio State football offers 2026 4-Star edge rusher

Ohio State football extended an offer to Xavier Griffin, a top ranked edge rusher in the 2026 class.

The Buckeyes have been among the best in college football at recruiting and developing edge rushers and defensive lineman in recent memory.

Since taking over as the defensive line coach in 2014, Larry Johnson’s track record of recruiting and player development is about as good as it gets in college football.

The Buckeyes just brought in a strong defensive line class in 2024 with Eddrick Houston, one of the top ranked edge rushers in the class, defensive lineman Eric Mensah, and a late commitment from Dominic Kirks.

In 2025 the Buckeyes have already landed a commitment from Zahir Mathis, the top ranked player out of Pennsylvania and have put out offers to eight other edge rushers in the class.

On Monday, Ohio State made their second edge rusher offer of the 2026 class, as Xavier Griffin announced on Monday that he’s received an offer from the Buckeyes.

Griffin attends Gainesville High School in Georgia and is one of the top ranked edge rushers in the 2026 class. The Buckeyes are the 11th team to offer Griffin joining Georgia, Florida State, Tennessee, and Kentucky amongst others.
