Spartans pick up crystal ball prediction for elite, 5-star PF Xavier Booker

Things appear to be trending in the right direction for Michigan State landing one of the top players in the 2023 class

Things appear to be trending in the right direction for Michigan State landing one of the top players in the 2023 class.

Five-star power forward Xavier Booker announced his top 10 schools list on Monday evening — which included Michigan State. Shortly after that was released, a crystal ball prediction in favor of Michigan State was entered for Booker by 247Sports basketball analyst Travis Branham.

Booker ranks as the No. 3 overall prospect in 247Sports’ rankings for the 2023 class. He’s also listed as the No. 1 power forward and No. 1 player from Indiana.

Things change quickly from day-to-day in the recruiting world so one crystal ball prediction shouldn’t make Spartans’ fans feel like Booker is a lock to end up in green-and-white. But it’s definitely a great sign to see and could be an indication of a massive commitment for Tom Izzo and his staff in the near future.

Michigan State basketball makes 5-star PF Xavier Booker’s top schools list

Michigan State basketball got some great news on the recruiting trail on Monday

Michigan State basketball got some great news on the recruiting trail on Monday.

Five-star power forward Xavier Booker released his top schools list on Monday, and Michigan State made the cut. The Spartans were one of 10 schools on the list — Oregon, Purdue, Cincinnati, Gonzaga, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Auburn, Michigan and Indiana were the other nine.

Booker ranks as the No. 3 player overall in 247Sports’ rankings for the 2023 class. He’s also listed as the No. 1 power forward and No. 1 player from Indiana.

Michigan State has made Booker a primary target during his recruiting process, with Izzo constantly being spotted at his games. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise to see Michigan State make his top 10 schools list. However, it’s still great to see the Spartans listed and remain in the hunt for his commitment.

The top target on Michigan State’s 2023 recruiting board will provide an update on his top schools later this month

The top target on Michigan State’s 2023 recruiting board will provide an update on his top schools later this month.

Five-star power forward Xavier Booker announced on Wednesday that he intends on revealing his top schools on July 25 at 6 p.m. EDT. He is ranked as the No. 4 overall prospect in 247Sports’ rankings for the 2023 class.

Booker hails from Indianapolis and plays for Cathedral High. He’s listed at 6-foot-10 and 205 pounds, and is ranked as the No. 2 power forward in the 2023 class.

Booker has been a top target for the Spartans, and someone the coaching staff has shown a ton of interest in this offseason. So it would be surprising (and devasting) if the Spartans weren’t included on his list.

Michigan State basketball considered leader for elite 4-star PF Xavier Booker

Michigan State is considered the leader in the clubhouse for an elite power forward in the 2023 class

Michigan State is considered the leader in the clubhouse for an elite power forward in the 2023 class.

Rob Cassidy of Rivals.com released a rankings of which schools currently have the best chance at landing four-star power forward Xavier Booker. In his rankings, Cassidy lists Michigan State as the No. 1 program.

Here’s a little of what Cassidy had to save about Michigan State and their recruitment of Booker:

“The pace at which things have moved between Booker and Michigan State is encouraging for Spartan fans, as the program was able to get the 6-foot-11 prospect on campus almost immediately after head coach Tom Izzo prioritized his games at a weekend grassroots event.”

Behind Michigan State in Cassidy’s rankings is Indiana (No. 2), Michigan (No. 3), a mystery program (No. 4) and Purdue (No. 5).

Booker is ranked by Rivals as the No. 38 player in the 2023 class. He hails from Indianapolis, and is listed at 6-foot-11 and 215 pounds.

Michigan State basketball is predicted to land one of the top power forwards in the 2023 class, according to one scout from Rivals.com

Michigan State basketball is predicted to land one of the top power forwards in the 2023 class, according to one scout from Rivals.com.

Kyler Staley of Rivals.com has submitted a “FutureCast” in favor of Michigan State for four-star power forward Xavier Booker of Indianapolis, Ind. Booker is ranked as the No. 38 overall prospect in Rivals.com’s rankings for the 2023 class, and holds offers from 14 programs.

Booker is listed at 6-foot-10 and 215 pounds, and plays for Cathedral High in Indianapolis.

Tom Izzo was in-person to see Booker play this past weekend, and is clearly a top target for the Spartans in the 2023 class. This is a good sign for Michigan State, as the Spartans are in need of a big man with the skillsets that Booker possesses.

Michigan State basketball: 5 recruits to watch out for as the cycle begins

5 recruits fans should look out for as Michigan State starts to piece together their 2023 recruiting class

Michigan State concluded their 2021-22 season with a Round of 32 exit to the Duke Blue Devils. Now, it is time to turn a new leaf and start getting prepared for the upcoming season and offseason. A huge part of this offseason will be recruiting the 2023 recruiting class. Tom Izzo has already been spotted on the road recruiting several different prospects and is making his presence on the recruiting trail known.

The Spartans already hold a commitment from Jeremy Fears, the No. 26 player in the recruiting class, and they are looking to build off of what the point guard brings them.

Here are five prospects fans should have on their radar as Tom Izzo looks to piece his 2023 recruiting class together:

Tom Izzo putting full-court press on 2023 Indiana center prospect

Tom Izzo is relentlessly recruiting a center in the 2023 recruiting class

Tom Izzo saw that not having a Big Ten quality center can pose major problems for his team and his program. The Spartans have struggled to recruit the center position in recent years as well, not getting a center commitment in the 2021 recruiting class, and missing on several prospects in the 2022 class. In 2022, MSU landed Jaxon Kohler, who is more of a stretch four, than a center in my opinion, but may be able to play center depending on his body development.

Izzo is determined to not let 2023 be the same for his Spartans on the recruiting trail, as he as identified Xavier Booker of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, as a must-have target in 2023.

Izzo was personally in attendance for the Indiana high school state finals to watch Booker play and to hopefully further his relationship with the center.
