WWE Clash at the Castle returning for 2024, this time in Scotland

WWE Clash at the Castle will be the first ever PLE held in Scotland this June.

At the first ever Clash at the Castle in 2022, Drew McIntyre considered it a hometown-type event when it was held in Wales. The Scottish Warrior should feel even more at home this year (provided he’s got his new contract secured) in its new venue.

WWE announced this morning that after a one-year hiatus, the Clash at the Castle premium live event (PLE) is returning this summer. The first ever PLE from Scotland will take place Saturday, June 15 at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.

The show will be part of a two-day WWE visit to Glasgow, as SmackDown will also take place there on Friday, June 14.

Along with McIntyre, WWE touted the depth of its Scottish talent in the press release announcing the event, including Alba Fyre, Isla Dawn, Piper Niven, Nikki Cross, Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey, Wolfgang and Noam Dar.

“We are excited to bring both Friday Night SmackDown and Clash At The Castle: Scotland to our amazing fans in Scotland at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow this June,” WWE President Nick Khan said in the release. “The world will see that this is one of the UK’s best venues and Scottish crowds are some of the loudest, craziest and most passionate on the planet.”

McIntyre was unsuccessful in his attempt to dethrone Roman Reigns at Clash at the Castle 2022, in large part due to the interference of The Bloodline. While that pivotal moment in front of a largely pro-McIntyre crowd in Cardiff has provided much of the fuel for his current on-screen persona, it’s possible he could be defending a world championship at this year’s show if he’s able to defeat Seth Rollins on Night 2 of WrestleMania 40.

WWE said ticket on-sale information for Clash at the Castle 2024 and SmackDown in Glasgow will be released “in the coming days.”

Solo Sikoa hadn’t seen Roman Reigns in 20 years before Clash at the Castle

Solo Sikoa was as surprised as you were when he debuted to help Roman Reigns at Clash at the Castle.

Solo Sikoa and Roman Reigns are part of the same wrestling family, but that doesn’t mean they’ve always been tight.

Speaking to Peter Rosenberg on the “Cheap Heat” podcast this week, Sikoa explained that because of the age difference between them (Sikoa is eight years younger), they didn’t have a close relationship in their younger years. As a result, when Sikoa made his WWE main roster debut at Clash at the Castle to assist Reigns in his match against Drew McIntyre, it was the first time he had seen the Tribal Chief in quite a while (h/t to WrestlingNews.co for the transcription).

“Seeing Roman in Cardiff, I haven’t seen him in like 20 years,” Sikoa said. “We really weren’t close, but he was always around at our house playing with my brothers (The Usos) because they were the same age and I was way, way younger than him. He was always around our house, but I think now coming into the business, I’m starting to get close with him.

“Even though the age gap is there, I’m really starting to get close with him because, I mean, it’s Roman Reigns. He’s been running the game for a while now so I’m starting to form that relationship with him.”

Perhaps because of that lack of an existing relationship, Sikoa was also surprised when he was told how he’d be introduced to the main roster — though his incorporation into the Bloodline seems in retrospect to have been a natural, logical move.

“It was just one of those things where I got the call and this is what we want to do and this is how we want to bring you in, but I never expected it this way in front of 60,000 people,” Sikoa said. “It was crazy. I’m still mind blown.”

It’s safe to say most WWE fans are enjoying having Sikoa in the Bloodline, and his chemistry with “Honorary Uce” Sami Zayn has been particularly entertaining. Here’s to getting closer to family, blood or otherwise.

WWE Clash at the Castle results: Can Drew McIntyre topple Roman Reigns?

Get full WWE Clash at the Castle results, including the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match between Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns.

WWE fans in the UK have waited decades for a stadium show to return to their region. Drew McIntyre may have been waiting even longer to main event Clash at the Castle, as in his entire life.

McIntyre has the tallest task on the card this Saturday at the Principality Stadium in Wales, but the biggest payoff if he wins. Should he defeat Roman Reigns, he’ll not only become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, he’ll also bring the curtain down on an incredibly dominant run for the Tribal Chief that has included more than two years with the Universal Champion.

He’ll undoubtedly have some home field advantage, but he won’t be the only one. Another match that fans are looking forward to with plenty of anticipation is the Intercontinental Championship match between champion Gunther and challenger Sheamus. In what’s guaranteed to be a hard-hitting affair, can Sheamus also tap into the goodwill of the fans to propel him to claiming the one major WWE championship he’s never held?

There’s another title bout on the six-match card as well, with Liv Morgan trying to fend off Shayna Baszler. Even though she’s already defended her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Ronda Rousey, Morgan hasn’t shed her underdog label just yet. A convincing victory over Baszler can help with that, but it’ll be no easy task.

Clash at the Castle will also feature several hot grudge matches. Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle can’t wait to get their hands on each other, as proven over the last few weeks of WWE programming. And Edge and Rey Mysterio will try to put The Judgment Day in the rear view mirror once and for all, though that feels unlikely.

If you aren’t fortunate enough to be in Wales or watching on Peacock or WWE Network, depending on where you are, we’ve got a good backup plan for you: Bookmark this page and check back throughout the day, as we’ll update it with the latest WWE Clash at the Castle results as they happen.

Tyson Fury says he will be ‘ringside’ for Clash at the Castle

Tyson Fury says he’ll have a very good seat in Cardiff for Clash at the Castle on Saturday.

Tyson Fury may not have made up his mind yet about whether he’s fully retired from boxing or not, but he knows where he’s going to be this weekend: at WWE Clash at the Castle.

In a video posted by WWE, the former heavyweight boxing world champion confirmed that he’d be in a very good seat at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales when the upcoming premium live event takes place.

Drew McIntyre, who has gone back and forth with Fury more than once on social media, took notice as well.

Sitting ringside could be significant for Fury, as it’s the way WWE got him involved with a show a few years ago. On the Oct. 4, 2019 episode of SmackDown, Fury was in a seat near the ring and ended up getting embroiled in a match involving Braun Strowman. That evolved into a program leading to a match between the two at WWE Crown Jewel, which Fury won by countout.

Fury has made hints at wanting to work with WWE again, most recently after his April boxing victory over Dillian Whyte, when he namedropped McIntyre and talked about wanting to appear at either SummerSlam or the show which became Clash at the Castle. There was even some thought that he might face McIntyre in a match in Wales at one point.

That clearly won’t be the case this Saturday, with McIntyre slated for what could be the biggest match of his career to date against Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. GiveMeSport reported earlier this week that Fury was expected to appear but added that he “almost certainly won’t be doing anything physically on the show.”

While that appears to be on the money, it doesn’t mean history couldn’t repeat itself with WWE using Fury’s presence this weekend to lead to something else down the road. Keep an eye on what the Gypsy King ends up doing, because if it’s more than just taking in the spectacle, maybe he’s ready to climb back into a wrestling ring instead of a boxing ring.

WWE Clash at the Castle: Everything you need to know

Prepare for WWE Clash at the Castle with our complete preview, including predictions for each match, start time, and how to watch.

UK, you’re getting the stadium show you’ve been waiting three decades to see.

When Principality Stadium in Wales hosts WWE Clash in the Castle on Saturday, Sept. 3, it will be the first time since SummerSlam way back in 1992 that WWE is holding an event at a large, outdoor stadium in the UK. That alone makes it a big deal.

But the probable main event ratchets things up another notch, because while Drew McIntyre isn’t from Wales, he is from the UK. Clash at the Castle will be the closest thing to a home WrestleMania the Scottish Warrior is likely to ever experience, and WWE has done an excellent job making it appear he has a real chance to topple Roman Reigns as undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

There are other matches on the card with semi-local interest as well, none bigger than the Intercontinental Championship match between Austrian champ Gunther and Irish challenger Sheamus. Also, that contest should just be one heck of a professional wrestling match, with both men bringing tremendous physicality, as one of WWE’s most legendary announcers of the past might say.

Add in Bayley and her new “Damage CTRL” teammates in a six-woman tag match, Liv Morgan trying to fend off another tough challenger for her SmackDown Women’s Championship in Shayna Baszler, and the man with the newly restored first name, Matt Riddle, throwing down with Seth Rollins in a feud that has become very personal, and you’ve got the makings of a very big night (or afternoon/morning, in the US) of wrestling indeed.

Watch: Ronda Rousey is helping Shayna Baszler scheme to defeat Liv Morgan

Ronda Rousey posted a video to her YouTube page showing her giving Shayna Baszler some ideas on how to beat Liv Morgan.

Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler haven’t been on the same side very often during the time they’ve been in WWE together. Except for a brief time before she left to have her first child, Rousey has consistently been positioned as a fan favorite, albeit one with a healthy distaste for authority.

Baszler, on the other hand, has mostly been a villain, one who gets as much enjoyment out of hurting opponents as she does from winning matches. Yet Rousey and Baszler are real life friends dating back to their time as professional MMA fighters, and that relationship has bled into their WWE interactions — most recently when Baszler tried to calm Rousey down and tell her to so things the right way when Ronda was protesting her (storyline) suspension.

One thing they both have in common is a desire to dethrone Liv Morgan as SmackDown Women’s Champion. Rousey lost that title to Morgan when Liv cashed in her Money in the Bank contract after Ronda had already been weakened from a match with Natalya, then lost the rematch in controversial (again, in the storyline) fashion.

But it’s Baszler who has a shot at Morgan at the upcoming Clash at the Castle premium live event, and to that end, Rousey doesn’t mind sharing some tactics on how to defeat Liv. She recently shared a video to her YouTube page, which you can see below, showing her offering some thoughts on how to counter some of the champ’s trademark moves.

There are definitely still some of the standard character bits in there, with Baszler showing a bit of a cavalier attitude toward the whole thing and Rousey imploring her to take Morgan seriously and be as prepared as possible. That’s exactly what you’d expect from a babyface trying to help a heel.

Still, it’s fun that regardless of how they are positioned with the fans, WWE allows Rousey and Baszler to have moments like this together. If they ever united for real, watch out.

Ronda Rousey expected back in time for Clash at the Castle

A Wrestling Observer report claims Ronda Rousey will be back from her storyline suspension in time for Clash at the Castle in Wales.

Ronda Rousey may be suspended in WWE storylines for the moment, but don’t expect that to last too long.

Dave Meltzer reported on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that Rousey is expected to be back in time to be part of the Clash at the Castle event in Wales on Sept. 3. That upcoming stadium show will be the first in the U.K. since 1992, so it makes sense that WWE would want as many of its big draws as possible on the card (h/t to Wrestling Inc. for the transcription).

“She’s booked on the Cardiff show,” Meltzer said. “So she’s going to be unsuspended at least before [that]. I don’t know how long, but it’s not going to be a month, to put it that way, because she’s got to be back for the PPV show.”

Rousey received her fictional suspension for attacking a referee following her loss to Liv Morgan at SummerSlam this past weekend. The finish of that match saw the ref count to three as Rousey’s shoulders were pinned to the mat at the same time she was applying an armbar to Morgan. Replays showed the SmackDown Women’s Champion tapped out prior to the three count, but Morgan was declared the winner by pinfall.

Though a bit contrived, the controversy allowed Morgan to escape with her title while not making Rousey look any weaker for losing — particularly since she dominated most of the action prior to the finish. It could also be a vehicle to Rousey turning heel, something she says she’d like to do, but that’s not a certainty, as reports are circulating that WWE is still listing her as a babyface internally.

Regardless, Rousey is sure to have unfinished business with Morgan, and her suspension should conveniently be over in time for her to tackle it at Clash at the Castle in just a few weeks.

WWE talks with Tyson Fury reportedly back on, eyeing Clash at the Castle appearance

According to a new report from GiveMeSport, talks between WWE and boxing champion Tyson Fury are taking place and could lead to an appearance soon.

It looks like adding Tyson Fury to the Clash at the Castle stadium show in Wales this September is still something WWE would like to do.

Louis Dangoor of GiveMeSport reports that the heavyweight boxing champion is “in talks with WWE regarding a potential return this summer.” While Dangoor’s sources aren’t sure if it would be for just an appearance or an actual match, they did say it would “tie in with Clash at the Castle,” which is set for the Principality Stadium in Wales on Sept. 3.

Fury himself had hinted at the possibility that he’d be at the show as far back as his victory over Dillian Whyte in April. He talked up Drew McIntyre as someone he’d like to knock out and spoke favorably about his lone WWE appearance to date, which took place in Saudi Arabia in 2019.

When summer arrived and there was no word of any negotiations between Fury’s camp and WWE, the thought was that perhaps both sides had moved on from the idea. But this new report suggests that having the popular British heavyweight on the show could still be in the cards.

A match between Fury and McIntyre would be an undeniable draw in Wales, though reviews of Fury’s first in-ring performance were mixed at best, and as Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp noted, recent talents from other areas of sports and entertainment to try their hand at WWE work have raised expectations with their efforts.

That said, Fury is also a skilled and compelling talker, so even trotting him out with a live microphone to trade verbal jabs with some WWE personalities and land a scripted haymaker or two could make for fun interactions. WWE will want to ensure that Clash in the Castle, its first U.K. stadium show in decades, is the biggest success possible, and including Fury in some way surely can’t hurt.

Don’t expect Tyson Fury at SummerSlam or Clash at the Castle unless something changes

Tyson Fury teased appearances at WWE events earlier this year, but it doesn’t appear that the heavyweight boxing champ is in WWE’s plans.

It doesn’t look like Tyson Fury will be getting back into a WWE ring any time soon.

The popular heavyweight boxing champion has a fondness for WWE and has one pro wrestling match to his credit, defeating Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel in 2019. He was asked about a potential return after his victory over Dillian Whyte in April, and responded positively to the idea of appearing at SummerSlam or Clash at the Castle while mentioning Drew McIntyre as someone he’d like to knock out (and the two have had an intermittent back and forth on social media for some time).

But at least for now, there aren’t plans for WWE to utilize the Gypsy King on its bigger events over the next few months, according to Dave Meltzer in his latest issue of Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

McIntyre on Smackdown said that he was challenging for the Universal title in the main event of the 9/3 Clash at the Castle in Cardiff. That was the match on the books all along, but the idea is that could have changed if they made the deal with Tyson Fury that was planned prior to the pandemic and which Fury still brought up after his last fight. Him going public with the title match tells you WWE has moved on from the Fury idea for now.

A showdown between fellow Brits McIntyre and Fury in a large stadium show in Wales would have been a slam dunk attraction, but McIntyre challenging for the championship would also be an undeniable draw. It’s possible fans could be clamoring for that even more given that Roman Reigns may only defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship once between now and Clash at the Castle on Sept. 3.

[lawrence-related id=3860]

That said, Fury is a big enough name that people other than hardcore boxing aficionados know him, so he could still be worked into WWE shows down the road if it works out for both sides. It just probably won’t be this summer, and for his fans, that’s probably a bit of a bummer.
