Chiefs LB Nick Bolton injured vs. Chargers in Week 7

#Chiefs LB Nick Bolton suffered an apparent wrist or hand injury against the #Chargers in Week 7.

The Kansas City Chiefs may be without Nick Bolton after the promising linebacker suffered an apparent injury to his hand or wrist against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 7.

The play when the injury occurred came in the fourth quarter as Kansas City was focused on stopping the Chargers’ offense from tying the game. Bolton tackled veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen short of the line to gain and forced a punt before grabbing for his hand and wrist on his way to the sideline.

Bolton’s absence would be a crushing blow for the Chiefs, who need to keep their defensive unit as healthy as possible heading into the middle part of their 2023 schedule. Perhaps no player has more of an impact on Kansas City’s defense than Bolton, who serves as the unit’s playcaller in a sort of quarterback role.

Expect Bolton’s injury to be the object of endless speculation ahead of the Chiefs’ matchup against the Broncos in Week 8.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes playing through left wrist injury

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has his left wrist taped up and is playing through an apparent injury, but it hasn’t seemed to limit him much.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is playing with an apparent injury to his left wrist.

On Mahomes’ opening touchdown pass to Travis Kelce, he was under pressure and hit on the throw. He landed on his non-throwing wrist and came up shaking out his wrist. On the ensuing drive, he came out with a lot of tape on his wrist. He also handed the ball off awkwardly on a play because he sought to use his right hand instead of his left hand.

CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson reports that Mahomes will have an X-Ray on his wrist.

Thankfully the injury isn’t to Mahomes’ throwing wrist. It also didn’t stop him from marching down the field on a third scoring drive. He took a few hits on the drive too.

This is something worth monitoring given that the Chiefs have a short week of practice on deck with a Week 2 game against the Los Angeles Chargers on “Thursday Night Football.”

Why did the Boston Celtics and Jayson Tatum take so long to reveal his wrist injury?

Should we be worried about Boston Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum’s wrist injury going under the radar for as long as it did?

Should we be worried about Boston Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum‘s wrist injury going under the radar for as long as it did? The St. Louis native picked up the nondisplaced fracture of his wrist late in the 2021-22 NBA season around the time of the last NFL Superbowl, and it was clearly affecting him not only for the rest of the season but straight through to the 2022 NBA Finals.

Did it play a role in the Duke product’s game gradually getting worse the deeper the Celtics went in the 2022 NBA Playoffs? Was he risking further injury to avoid being seen as soft? Will the growing partnership with sports betting organizations and the league look at such a course of events unhappily?

The host of the “Locked On Celtics” podcast John Karalis was recently joined by Boston.com’s Tom Westerholm to talk over Tatum’s injury that he revealed in a recent interview with Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say about any potential fallout from Tatum’s wrist fracture among many other offseason topics.

How should we look at Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum’s 2022 NBA playoffs performance in light of his injury revelation?

The Celtics star was clearly not right as the 2022 NBA playoffs progressed; should we worry he didn’t want it checked? Admire his resolve?

Should the fact All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum revealed he had been playing in the 2022 NBA playoffs with a nondisplaced fracture in his wrist change how we look at his performance in the Boston Celtics’ run to the NBA Finals?

In a recent interview with Taylor Rooks of Bleacher Report, Tatum spoke at length about a number of Boston-adjacent topics, but his revelation of the injury (sustained late in the 2021-22 NBA season) and its impact on him was far and away the most important aspect of the exchange. The St. Louis native also revealed how reluctant he was to even have it checked out in the first place, given it could have ended with him having to sit out time in the playoffs.

The eponymous hosts of the Jalen and Jacoby show on ESPN recently discussed the Tatum injury revelation and how it shapes their understanding of what the Celtics accomplished in the 2022 postseason in the video embedded below.

Chiefs DT Chris Jones provides update on last season’s wrist injury

#Chiefs DT Chris Jones gave a positive update on his recovery from the wrist injury he played through all of last season.

Kansas City Chiefs DT Chris Jones battled through an injury last season, missing a trio of games in the process.

Jones missed Week 4 through Week 6, revealing upon his return that he was dealing with torn ligaments in his wrist. At the time, he took a few weeks off to let the injury subside, but he didn’t anticipate being 100% at any point during the 2021 NFL season.

Jones spoke to the media for the first time this offseason during Wednesday’s mandatory minicamp practice. He was asked about how the wrist felt and whether he had any procedures done on the injury this offseason.

“For the most part, just rest,” Jones said of his recovery. “Right now I’m feeling really, really good. Let’s knock on wood. You know how this game goes, the physicality of it. Right now, I’m feeling good. Attacking, running around.”

Jones didn’t have a procedure or anything during the 2021 NFL season either, he only wore a hard cast during the games he played. While it improved as the season progressed, he simply needed time away from football for the ligaments to fully heal and recover.

“Nothing, just in a hard cast, playing through it,” Jones said. “It wasn’t going to get better during the season because of the timeframe and the intensity of the game of football. It’s just hard to recover completely from an injury. So, right now I’m feeling good.”

It’s good news that Jones is back to feeling like himself because he has some big personal and team goals for the upcoming season.

Chiefs DL Chris Jones reveals he’s playing with torn wrist ligaments

After the Week 8 win over the #Giants, #Chiefs DL Chris Jones revealed he tore wrist ligaments earlier this season and has been playing through it.

Kansas City Chiefs defensive linemen Chris Jones revealed after the Week 8 win over the New York Giants that he has been battling through a significant wrist injury this season, one that will potentially require surgery during the offseason.

Jones first popped up on the injury report after the team’s Week 2 game against the Baltimore Ravens. He was limited in practice all week ahead of the Week 3 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, but he ultimately chose to play through the injury.

“Well, I ended up tearing some ligaments in my wrist and I tried to play through it,” Jones told reporters after the game. “I don’t make no excuses for myself. I tried to play through it and realized that I couldn’t play to my full potential while playing through it. I thought it was best to just take a couple of weeks off and let it heal.”

Torn and partially torn wrist ligaments can heal in 2-10 weeks, but the rough nature of the NFL game means that Jones is at risk of reinjury on any given down. He sat out in Week 5 and Week 6, but was back in action against the Titans in Week 7 and right back at it again in Week 8 after missing the first two days of practice.

“Thankfully, the team agreed,” Jones continued. “We came to an agreement and I feel a lot better now. I’m able to do some things that I wasn’t able to do when it initially happened and I feel good. I feel great to be back on the field with my brothers.”

Jones says he’s feeling good, or at least better than he did after the Week 3 game against the Chargers. He’ll likely need maintenance days for the remainder of the season to ensure that his wrist is healing and not worsening. Asked whether he was “100 percent” in his return to the field, Jones was honest with reporters about the outlook for the season.

“I wouldn’t say 100 percent,” Jones said. “I don’t think I’ll be 100 percent this season. It’s a long brutal season. Every game you get a knick or a knack. So, I’m good enough to play to the best of my ability and any time I’m able to do that I can be a problem.”

In this game, he showed just the type of problem he can be. Jones and Frank Clark claimed the Week 8 victory with back-to-back sacks of Giants QB Daniel Jones, something that at one point was a signature for this defense. A reporter asked, “Is sack nation back?”

Jones’ response felt very appropriate.

“I don’t think we ever left,” Jones said. “Like I was telling my teammates, it’s a marathon. It’s a long season you know, we’ve still got another half-season to go. We can be the best half-season you guys have ever seen. . .”
